Application
This method is applicable for rapid
detection of the oil pollution, mixed
with mineral oil.
Method and principle
Glycerides as edible oil fatty acid, can
occur hydrolysis reaction under alkaline
conditions (i.e. the saponification
reaction), its products are easy to
dissolve in water. And mineral oil
cannot be saponification, also do not
dissolve in water, it can appear turbid
phenomenon, hereby certify the mineral
oil in the presence or itself is mineral
oil.
Testing material
Mineral oil detection reagent, anhydrous
ethanol (self-service),
colorimetric tube,
distilled water and hot water.
Method of operation
Take 2 drops of oil sample into the
colorimetric tube, and add 5 mineral oil
detection reagent, and add ethanol to
the 5mL, do not cover the tube, heat it
at 80¡æ
to 100¡æ
water (or poured the
boiling water into the beaker, put the
colorimetric tube into water) for 10
minutes, during the heating process at
any time to gently shaking, when taken
out the ethanol volume do not less than
4mL, and then add 5mL distilled water or
purified water.
Results judgment
If the colorimetric tube solutions muddy
that is positive, the turbidity will
increase with mineral oil concentration.
If the oil mixed with greater hardness
water, then can also occur opacities,
keep long to produce precipitation. The
mixed with mineral oil for a long time
on precipitation transparent oil will be
floating on a liquid surface.
Announcement
In the operation must be done a gas
sample blank test, if the blank test
tube also appear cloudy, that means the
ethanol has a problem, need to change
the anhydrous ethanol.
The detection positive samples should be
sent to the laboratory for further
confirmation.
Reagent quality control
Reagent on mineral oil minimum
detectable amount is 0.1%.
Reagent should be stored in normal
temperature and avoided form sunlight.
